The Sporting DR

Avid exerciser, learner of DIY hair care, and physician.

You are busy, and life can be challenging; but staying active and keeping your hair on point does not have to be. I know what it’s like to feel you have to choose between your workouts and your hair. None of us spend good money on a relaxer or blow out only to sweat it out the next day. And while natural curls can be a little more forgiving, sweat is not ideal for keeping your twist out in its best form either. What’s a girl to do?

When my hair was relaxed, I often found myself having to choose between my hair and my workout, especially if I had plans that night or an event the following day. Wearing my hair in a bun post workout was my go to solution. This was a functional style but got old after a while. Things were particularly challenging when it was close to time for another relaxer, and I had so much new growth in the back. I’ve since grown out my relaxer and transitioned to wearing my hair natural. While my natural texture is a bit more forgiving when it comes to sweaty workouts, many headbands still leave something to be desired.

This is why I designed the Sporting DR headbands. My goal is to help you live healthier by removing hair care as a barrier to exercise. Sporting DR headbands are wide, providing a large surface area to wick sweat away from your scalp. Each headband is made of 2 layers: a wicking layer and a more absorptive layer designed to draw sweat away from your scalp and hair for easy evaporation during your workouts. The standard Daily headband can be worn by anyone wanting to keep sweat out of their eyes and hair while working out. The Signature headband has a moisture wicking strip that hides discreetly in your ponytail to wick moisture from the crown of the head and is ideal for the woman who is in between relaxers or blowouts.

As a primary care sports medicine physician I absolutely believe that exercise is medicine. It decreases the risk of so many diseases. Not to mention its mood enhancing and stress relieving benefits. Besides being your spot on the web for great headbands, thesportingdr.com is also the place to learn sound hair care and fitness tips. Great workouts and good hair days don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Stay sporting!
