As we enter the final stretch of 2024, it’s easy to lose sight of your New Year’s resolutions. According to psychologist John C. Norcross, by midway through the year, only 46% of people will succeed with their resolutions. Additional research shows that only 1% to 12% of people finish the year successfully.

Don’t worry though - these 3 tips will help you finish the  year on top.

Revisit your goals for 2024

Look back at the goals you wrote down in January. Choose 1 to 3 of them to focus on for the next 3 months. Trying to tackle a giant to-do list of goals you wrote down 9 months ago can be overwhelming. By focusing on just 1 to 3 goals that mean the most to you, you allow yourself to be laser focused on what you want to accomplish.

Create an action plan

Create an action plan to accomplish your goals over the next 3 months. This might mean focusing on one goal a month or breaking down a big goal into smaller ones you can tackle each week.

Get specific with the details of your plan, too. If your goal was and still is to exercise more this year, focus on exercising 3 days a week for the next 3 months or 30 minutes 5 days each week. Write the times you plan to exercise in your planner or add the task to your online calendar. Stick to the goal based activity in your planner like you would any other meeting or appointment.

Keep your goals top of mind

Make sure you look at your goals a minimum of once a week. If you can find a way to look at your goals every day, that’s even better. Write them somewhere visible. Make them the homepage on your computer or background on your phone. Place them on a vision board in your work space or somewhere else in your home. The idea here is to continually remind yourself what you are working towards and hold yourself accountable to continually take action towards it. Believe it or not, one of the reasons resolutions often fail is because people forget they made them all together.

Finally, remember, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Celebrate any progress you make towards your goals and becoming a better version of yourself.
