My Favorite Twist Out Method For My Transitioning Hair

There are few worse feelings than being in between. When I decided I wanted to return to natural with my hair, I knew one thing for sure; I was not going to do a big chop. I still wanted the option to wear my hair longer and straight at times. The problem with transitioning without doing a big chop is the in between. My straight hair doesn’t hold the curl I want when I do twist outs, but if I straighten my hair, it's all for nothing after my first sweaty work out. As my hair has grown out, I’ve had the straight ends trimmed. Now my hair is about 90% fully back to its natural texture.

Proud of my almost 100% natural hair, I’ve been more confident in trying and rocking different twist out styles. The front third of my head is still a bit tricky since that is where I still have a good bit of relaxed hair remaining. Recently while doing my preferred flat twist twist out, I decided to do the twists going all the way back along my scalp; like corn rows. This was a GAME CHANGER!! My best twist out to date; no lie. Twisting the hair all the way back forced the straight ends of the hairs in the front to stay in a tight twist along my scalp and conform more to the curl pattern of the more natural hairs that were getting added to the twist along the way. Prior to this method, the front of my hair always looked so different than the back because this hair would be twisted just with itself, and thus have a much looser curl pattern half way down.

I’ve still got other twist out and hair setting methods to try like flexirods, but for now, this is my fav!

Hope this helps those of you who are transitioning your hair have a little less frustration.

Until next time…
